Truly Help

What is Altruism? Do you know someone who may be an empath? Some may mislabel such a person as having a savior complex, as if there is such a thing! Maybe folks who believe altruism is not a real thing have a complex of their own? Our office has observed many instances of generous gratitude, you know, paying it forward and helping others suffering with an addiction. We have also had a few who just seem to care and wish to help. Many though, simply figure working to help others altruistically has a cloaked ulterior motive. In the psychology arena, Bipolar disorders have been associated with altruistic behavior, while some psychologists speculate to alleviate discomfort within themselves, a sort of defense motive.

Here’s the most important true-help factor, according to our school of thought: the help is best served free of any and all contingencies. You can bet your boots; your help will be tested and scrutinized for its authenticity. Some psychologically challenged are unable to contain their acting-out behavior 24/7 and if you’re unable to forgive, you’ll be disappointed. With love and tolerance, the code of twelve-step ideology, you will also be surprised at the love and respect they have to offer, when well grounded.

What if altruism is really about human survival, as a species, a sort of gifted genetic component? For example, when this special gene gets expressed, the rDNA commands altruism. As part of the M element in ARMOR, this type of modulation is a bit deep for a News Brief. The take-home message is that things are not always as they seem, like how a fence topped with barbed wire arrived on the scene. Once again, nice work, Ms. Gilbert! An example of what Affirmation means in ARMOR Program parlance: … a man, “Jimmy” living unhoused for years is quoted by Ms. Melanie G… words said about Mami – “She’s amazing. We just love her so much,” he said. “She has been coming here feeding us, the homeless, everybody, gift cards, Subway sandwich, no questions asked, no attitude, no discrimination, no nothing. She has a clean heart.” article

So, the old Superior Courthouse went for a couple million and using it for research with our homeless addiction disorders is no longer Doc’s pipedream. The ideal location and structure made it appealing. The Slim Survivors still out on the streets consider the area their home, under the stars. Or, as Boston Jim O’Connell would say, from the shadows. Tracy Kidder used the phrase “Rough Sleepers.”  Of course, our research design and methodology will now remain under wraps – VSN’s intellectual property, until further notice.

We have lots of other work to do within Doc’s retirement plan anyway, like finishing our online addiction remission machine and quality of life improvement programs. Affirmation from our editors’ group is keeping Doc on task for completing Twelve Marble Stairs as well. Adding video clips to our News Briefs has also been petitioned; so, let’s do it! Ms. Slinky, our drone pilot, is a year now in remission from OUD.

Are you creative, seeking your means of expression? Visit Richard’s area – Desktop Writers section. He’ll guide you along, even if your venue is different from literature, like music, painting, sculpting, or any other artistic endeavor. Simply reach out! His page connects directly to him. We refrain from using any information for any other purpose than connecting with us and honor professional confidentiality respectfully. Your involvement is free from contingencies too, no requirements other than love and respect for others.

Here comes Fathers’ Day and a few graduates have since become fathers (mothers too). And we must admit they are great parents, more often than not! They are still human, right? “Thanks for adding grandchildren to our armada,” from Doc! And we wish all dads out there an enjoyable and wonderful Fathers’ Day; we hope you get to spend time with your children! Everyone needs affirmation to survive, as evidenced by teenage suicide rates mid-Covid years peeking to extreme levels.

In closing, Doc was nearly brought to tears watching a policewoman leave her blackened SUV to give a homeless woman cold water and a clean top to wear, as she twirled about delusional from the heat, downtown. Now that too is affirmation and may possibly be sufficient enough to turn that young lady’s life around. Motivational Interviewing can produce positive outcomes with a single encounter. Thumbs up to you, Ma’am! Of course, hot weather and illicit drug use make for a dangerously bad combo boys and girls, just saying.
