Do you practice meditation? You’ve got to meditate, just a few minutes daily. Where it takes you is amazing. At first, for me anyway, it seemed a little silly, not sure why. It may have been the social culture of the time, when I first started. I was introduced to the concept during martial arts training, early seventies. It didn’t actually become a daily routine until many years later, when I stopped drinking alcohol. It became a nice way to calm my mind. Now it’s a nice way to achieve my goals.
So, how does one go about meditating? There are lots of ways, from a short walk in nature to deep relaxation through various postures and breathing exercises. Practicing the movements of different movements in the martial arts can be a form of meditation as well. The idea is to take control of your mind by volitionally focusing on something other than the hustle and bustle of daily life. The worries and concerns of the day are put aside, briefly, while attention is placed somewhere else. Today I use beads when meditating but it’s best to start out with something simple, so as to develop a routine. Once a routine is in place, advancing the methodology of your meditation happens automatically.
Here’s something quick and easy. Simply envision the air around you as being the color blue. As you inhale your breath, envision the air turning yellow, and then once your lungs are filled with air, envision that air as having turned green. Now, for the exhaling air, envision it being red and then turning back to blue, as it enters the atmosphere around you. You could start out by just doing this three to five times and poof, you’re done. The key is to do this daily, until you’ve got it down to a routine.
The practice of meditation escapes me. I awaken at 4am every day, so it’s always quiet and peaceful.I imagine this would be the perfect atmosphere in which to meditate. Maybe I should try it again now ?
