Well, missed yesterday’s post! Sis says that’s Ok, it’s a sign of being human. I then went on a rant about socialism and how our current approach to treating addiction is starting to take shape. Our old strategies were not working. The present epidemic on our hands demonstrates this need for something different, a more broad based approach, one that understands addiction.
If you align current strategies in a proper sequence, the process starts to offer promise. The area of developing clients’ intrinsic motivation requires attention. Many clients seek out help for their addiction, way before they are actually intrinsically motivated to get help. For instance, when mom and dad apply pressure, there can be a tendency to seek out the help without truly being interested. This seldom works out well for the client, as it generates false hope in loved ones, and another lapse only intensifies mistrust. With sufficient intrinsic motivation for remission, the journey begins.
I bet you’d like to know how one goes about instilling necessary intrinsic motivation to actually accomplish remission of an addiction!
